Joseph D. Benevento , M.D.

    Dr. Benevento joined Eye Physicians & Surgeons, P.C. after completing his two year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Chicago.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1995.  After completing medical school at New York Medical College, he was accepted into the residency program in ophthalmology at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary, one of the top residency programs in the nation.  He graduated from the Infirmary in 2005 and is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Benevento’s expertise is in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the retina and vitreous, vital structures within the eye.  His interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal detachments, and other potentially blinding infectious, inflammatory, inherited and traumatic disorders of the retina.  Dr. Benevento is adept at the interpretation of state of the art diagnostic tests routinely used at our offices including ocular coherence tomography, fluorescein angiography, and ultrasonography.  He performs numerous procedures in the office and hospital settings including scleral buckle, small incision sutureless vitrectomy, laser treatments, and intraocular injections.  He has written articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented his research at national ophthalmology meetings.
