Erin J. Anderson, OD

   

Dr. Anderson joined Eye Physicians and Surgeons in July 2006 after completing her residency at the West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Anderson graduated in 1999 from Boston College with a B.S. in Biochemistry.  She then obtained her Doctorate of Optometry from the State University of New York, College of Optometry in 2005. While in optometry school, she was President of the Leo club, a student organization affiliated with the Lions Club, where she organized food drives, clothing drives, and vision screenings for the Special Olympics. She has traveled to the Appalachian region of Virginia and to Nicaragua to provide eye examinations for underprivileged populations.

At graduation from SUNY School of Optometry, Dr. Anderson was awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, the Ira Goldfarb Memorial Award for Excellence in Low Vision and the Billie M. Lyons Memorial Award for the distinguished service to the college community.

After optometry school, Dr. Anderson completed a Primary Care Optometry and Low Vision Optometry Residency at the West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Haven, CT. During her residency she was trained to prescribe low vision devices, such as specialized reading glasses, hand held magnifiers, monoculars for viewing distant objects, electronic devices and other instruments to aid those with visual impairments. Dr. Anderson is one of the select few providers that is certified by the Board of Education and Services for the Blind (BESB) to provide Low Vision services. BESB is an agency run by the state of Connecticut which is committed to providing services for those who have significant visual impairment.

Dr. Anderson also specializes in contact lens fittings and evaluations for those with myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, astigmatism and keratoconus. She also provides routine ocular health examinations and is accepting new patients.
